2026 International Summer School — Professor Xu Xiaohua’s Academic Lecture Successfully Held Speaker Profile

On July 7, 2026, the International Summer School hosted by our School, themed “Intelligent Frontiers: A Software and Network Perspective,”was successfully inaugurated. Focusing on software, networks, artificial intelligence, and their interdisciplinary applications, this summer school organized a series of courses and special lectures, building an important platform for camp participants to broaden their international horizons and enhance their research capabilities. As one of the flag ship academic activities of the summer school, the School specially invited Professor Xu Xiaohua to give a special report titled “Systematic Optimization and Application of RNA Foundation Models.” Focusing on the frontier where artificial intelligence and life sciences intersect, the report systematically elaborated on directions such as intelligent RNA modeling, structure prediction, function analysis, and intelligent drug discovery. Its rich content and novel perspectives aroused enthusiastic responses from teachers and students. This activity fully demonstrated the positive results of our School in leveraging the International Summer School platform to advance high-level academic exchange and deepen interdisciplinary integration.

Lecture Content

1.Starting from Modeling Challenges: Analyzing the Research Logic of Empowering Life Sciences with Large Models

Professor Xu Xiaohua first analyzed the primary challenge of RNA modeling: RNA possesses multi-scale hierarchical organization and strongly constrained coupling characteristics, and complex cross-layer mapping relationships exist among sequence semantics, structural organization, and functional realization, which makes traditional data-driven methods face significant limitations in information representation, model organization, and complex task solving.

2.A Unified Modeling Framework Progressing Through Three Levels of “Representation–Model–Task”

Addressing the above challenges, Professor Xu Xiaohua systematically expounded the construction of a unified research framework that progresses layer by layer from representation, to model, and then to task. This framework aims to systematically reveal the mechanisms of information representation, model organization, and task coordination in intelligent RNA modeling.

3.Future Applications for RNA Drugs and AI Drug Design

Finally, Professor Xu Xiaohua introduced applied research on protein and RNA modeling. These studies are expected not only to improve the efficiency of RNA structure prediction and function analysis, but also to provide powerful intelligent tools for RNA target discovery, nucleic acid drug design, and precision medicine applications.

The lecture site was lively, with Chinese and international camp participants listening attentively and exchanging views with Professor Xu Xiaohua on topics such as RNA large models, AI-assisted drug development, and interdisciplinary research in bioinformatics. Drawing on his own research experience, Professor Xu Xiaohua patiently answered the questions that concerned the participants. After the lecture, our School presented Professor Xu Xiaohua with aguest speaker certificate, in appreciation of the high-level academic report he brought to our School’s 2026 International Summer School.
